How to share files

There are 8 authors signed up to the blog now. Hopefully that number will continue to rise. But what if we want to share files?
You can’t upload any files other than images to the somerset geographers blog, so the solution is to use a free file sharing service. I recommend 4shared .com It’s free and you can store 1Gb worth of data online. If you want to share a file, it’s a simple matter of uploading it to 4shared, then creating a new post (or comment) with a link to the uploaded file. You need to register on 4 shared to upload files.

As an example I’ve uploaded the presentation I used together with some Google Earth files and videos. I stuck them all in one zip folder and they can be downloaded from this link: http://www.4shared.com/file/6070757/1c44a16e/50_ways_to_leave_your_levee.html
Be warned -it’s a large folder so don’t try it if you don’t have broadband.

If you’d like to check this all out, but don’t have broadband – here is a free suprise resource that might be useful for teaching settlement. If you download it, you’ll find out what it is! Link to mystery resource (I wouldn’t get too excited!)

After clicking on the link you have to wait a few seconds before the download button appears at the bottom of the page. This must be some kind of feature that prevents automatic file scraping by robots (or something)

In this way we can all share files. Just remember this is a public blog and the upload links can be seen by anyone, so don’t upload anything you’re not happy to make public – including files with dodgy copyright! I also recommend editing your profile by removing your email address to avoid getting spammed.
